    The Blendtec vs. Vita-Mix dilemma

I must give you a little bit of history before reviewing the Blendtec . . .Our local Costco was having a Vita-Mix road show and i bought it knowing that I really liked everything I had ever read about a Blendtec. A couple of my friends raved about the Vita-Mix, so I felt I needed to pay a little attention. A large purchase like this deserved a little research so that I wouldn't have any regrets. I watched the demo, was impressed and took home the Vita-Mix that day. I was anxious to make a smoothie with it because I had been using the Magic Bullet for five months. I made my first smoothie with it, and it turned out great but the "honeymon" didn't last very long. I did not like the sheer size of the Vita-Mix! It sat VERY high on my counter, wouldn't fit under the cabinet and it looked like it belonged in a commercial-sized kitchen, not mine. I absolutely disliked everything about the lid, except the ability to drizzle liquids in from the opening. The lid was not easy to... 5/5 SmoothieGirl (Hawaii, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great blender, but buy hearing protection to go with it!

This is an awesome blender. It blends stuff like you've never seen before and I am really pleased with it. But holy cow is it LOUD!! The cat hates me. I got a pair of earmuffs from the shooting supply place to wear while using it. Maybe overkill, but I think that using it twice a day without them would result in hearing damage eventually. I wish they sold an enclosure for this one like they do for the commercial ones....I'd definitely buy one.I bought this because I had a juicer and liked it. But I felt that tossing all that pulp and fiber had to be making me miss out on a lot of health benefits. And just trying to spoon some of it back into the juice doesn't work, it's gross. This blender blends whole fruits and vegetables wonderfully, I can still get the fiber and in a drinkable form. After I bought this, I read a webpage where they talked about blending an avocado WITH the pit, and I tried it. It works, I ended up with an amazingly smooth mousse-like... 5/5 Shopperholic (Copiague, NY United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) An excellent blender with many purposes

I have owned this blender for about a month. So far it has worked great. It is a great tool to have if you expect to blend stuff on a daily basis. The larger blades and powerful motor makes my Oyster beehive blender feel like a toy. It will blend things that conventional blenders would not even begin to blend. Baby food can be puree very well. Much better than with the food processor. This machine can basically replace a food processor, a juicer, and a grinder.Things I like:1. It blends just about anything do to the large blades and powerful 1500 watt motor. And it does it much faster than a conventional blender.2. It's built in the USA and the parts seem to be good quality.3. One push button operation allows you to blend w/o having to time it or supervise it.4. lifetime warranty on coupling and blade.5. It fits under standard counters.Things I do not like:1. The base has a cheap feel to it because of the plastic. For the... 4/5 P. Estrada - See all my reviews, January 18, 2008

    I'm impressed!

I've repeatedly tried to dramatically increase my consumption of raw fruits and greens with little success. It is extremely difficult to chew large quantities of produce. Blended food is the answer. I have prepared all manner of concoctions using the Blentec WildSide blender which are delicious and nutritious. The Blendtec works as advertised. It is loud, but tolerably so. My drinks, smoothies and sauces are blended to smooth perfection in a remarkably short period of time. I definitely recommend getting the 96 oz container. I prepare food for one, or sometimes two, and find this larger size to be perfect. The container is also very easy to clean. I debated whether to buy the Blendtec or the Vitamix; after researching, I decided on the Blentec and am very pleased with my decision. The product is expensive, but it works very, very well. I use it several times a day. Think of it this way: instead of cooking your food on a stove or in an oven, you are processing the food in a... 5/5 RMG (N. A real workhorse!

My husband and I started juicing and making smoothies several months ago. Once we realized that using our blender would stay a daily part of our routine, we figured it was time for an upgrade. We did ALOT of research, trying to decide between a Vitamix and a Blendtec. First, let me say that in my opinion, you could buy either brand and end up a with a great blender. There was nothing about the Vitamix that made us think it would be a bad choice; we did find things that we thought wouldn't be the right fit for us. Here's why we chose the Blendtec over the Vitamix:1) No need for a plunger with the Blendtec. Maybe I'm just lazy, but I hated the thought of having to stand over my blender and plunge the food down. To be fair though, I think with the more expensive versions, a plunger may not be needed.2) The 96 oz. container and 4" 2 prong blade on the Blendtec. I figured this would be easier to clean than the Vitamix.3) The Blendtec is shorter and will fit... 5/5 Tiffany (Sulphur, LA, United States) - See all my reviews, April 24, 2011

    Love this blender

I wanted a heavy-duty blender to make vegetable and fruit juices, and this baby fit the bill. Yes, it is terribly loud, I turn it on and go into another room so I don't have to hear the blender doing it's thing. But it really works, it liquifies everything that's in the container (as long as you have some liquid to get it started), and it's super easy to clean. I've been using it daily and feeling good about the impact it's having on my health. 5/5 Susan B. (Bridgewater, NJ) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great blender, but the lid needs work.

This is a powerful blender, and is comparable to the VitaMix. I love the square design of the container, because it is easy to clean - way easier to clean than the VitaMix, and the blade at the bottom is not sharp, so I don't nick myself when cleaning the bottom of the blender. It is also much easier to scrape the blended goodness out of the bottom of the blender. But I don't like the lid design. The lid is flat and sits flush against the top of the blender. It gets splattered from the force of the blended ingredients. Makes a mess when you open it. This is a real problem when blending in between adding ingredients. Also, the plunger sometimes IS needed - even with a BlendTec, although Blendtec says it is not needed because of the variable speeds on its blender settings. There are times when I wish I had the plunger to just push things down while the blender is on. Instead, I have to take the lid off, which is dripping all over with blended goo, thus making a mess, so I can stir the... 4/5 B. Worth every penny ...

This product is so powerful ... with more horsepower than the Vitamix. The Blendtec motor is so strong it does not need sharp blades like what the Vitamix has. It is so easy to wash ... and with its short height, it easily stores in the countertop. Most important of all, it is very durable. Ours (an older model but with a similar motor) has about 4 years of service in the kitchen and more than 1350 cycles to its credit, blending frozen fruits all the time. The only advantage Vitamix has over this product is that, while Blendtec has a relief hole on the lid of its container, Blendtec does not come with a plunger to push the fruits down when the blades liquefy the fruits at the bottom being blended while the rest of the fruits at the top hang on to each other in their frozen state. Big deal! I easily solved this problem by buying a big composite spoon from Costco for less than 6 dollars a pair and cut one of them to be used as a plunger.I think all blenders... 5/5 Eduardo Katalbas (Mission Hills, Ca USA) - See all my reviews, January 7, 2011

    Good but not great

I had a vitamix for 20 years. It was truly a work horse. When it finally went out and I saw a demo at Costco, I decided to switch and get the blendtec, which I've had now for a little over six months. What I like about the blendtec more: size, it really makes a difference that it fits under my cabinets, so I keep it out all the time and use it more often. Both machines make a perfect smoothie, even a green smoothie, which is what I mostly use the machine for. However, recently I've been making sorbets and ice treats, and the blendtec really struggles without any liquid. The blades freeze up and it makes a horrible sound; which is concerning. I agree with another viewer that it does need some sort of probe tool, to work solid ingredients. At some point, I will probably order the larger 96oz container, which I understand also incorporates ingredients much quicker/easier.Costco gave an extra four year warranty to Blendtecs standard 3 - which makes it equal to the 7 years of... 3/5 lamama "lamama" (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Blendtec TB-631-20 The Professional's Choice 1560-Watt Total Blender, Red (Kitchen) I had a vitamix for 20 years. Absolutely Great Product

This blender is so powerful it makes smoothies in 20 seconds - I haven't had any fruit or vegetable that doesn't get pulverized in that short amount of time. Clean up is so easy due to the blade being attached to the blender container itself. I'd recommend this product to anyone who wants a powerful blender. 5/5 Lynda Aird "heidi" (Warrenville, IL) - See all my reviews, December 11, 2010

    Excellent blender

I have now had this blender for about 4 months and I love it. I mostly use it for making green smoothies which is really easy since the "2" button is preprogrammed for it. The only slight annoyance is that when really packing the jar full, if not packed correctly, the contents will get wedged at the top and the blades will just spin. It didn't take me very long to learn how to put stuff in so that this almost never happens. When it does it is very easy to just hit stop, pull the top part off the lid, and push the contents down a little. I have also tried making green smoothies in a VitaMix and the Blendtec is way easier. With the Blendtec the preprogrammed button makes a perfect smoothie every time whereas I still can't figure out how to correctly use the VitaMix to get all the contents fully chopped up and get the right consistency. 5/5 Matt - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Love this blender!

After many months of research, comparing/contrasting the virtues of BlendTec, Vitamix and a lower priced L'Equip, I settled on the BlendTec Wildside. I've had it 5 days and used it four of those days to make smoothies. Be sure to read all of the information provided. It is very helpful! For example, when using frozen strawberries, it is best to allow them to soften a bit before placing them into the blender. They can be too cold and create an air pocket around the blade. When this happens, the food does not get blended as well. I read this, but decided to test it anyway. By Tuesday, I had my blend perfected. And, be sure to place things into the blender in a particular order. For example, ice is always last so it makes sense that frozen items should be on top of fresh (though this does not apply to the addition of ice cream. If I recall, that goes in first.) I will post another review as we try other items in the blender. I am looking forward to making soup! The blender is... 5/5 Kori Miller - See all my reviews, July 1, 2011

Previous carafe problems corrected with new design

If you are like me, you've had to buy one carafe after another at this outrageous price. The previous version had a rubber type connection for the blade and it wore out very quickly. The new version has a hardened plastic type of connection. It is not wearing out at all. No black dripping mess, no slivers of rubber, no melting rubber smell. Why the price for these is so exorbitant is beyond me. Its probably 50 cents worth of plastic with a 2.00 blade fixture. If I'd known the replacements were so expensive I would not have purchased the blender. 5/5 Ziminy13 (St Petersburg, FL United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Improved quality jar

This jar has been improved since I bought the last one almost one and a half year ago, it does not have the rubber between the blade and the jar which used to smell and taste like burned and you also use to find little pieces of that same rubber in the shakes you've made. Now I hope that at least it last for longer time because I consider it is a very expensive attachment. 5/5 Jorge A. Bardawil S (Caracas, Venezuela) - See all my reviews, January 16, 2011

    Unbeatable

I've been using my Blendtec daily for several months now and it has proven over and over why it gets top reviews. You can simply toss anything you want in the jar to make a smoothie and presto, you have a perfectly blended, frothy drink each and everytime. 5/5 MSL "MSL" (Washington State) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Blendtec Beats The Rest

Blendtec Total Blender, Four-sided- Purchased 2/16/12 from BLENDTEC.com After making a search of several sources from which to purchase this blender, I decided to order from the Blendtec company. For guarantee, warranty purposes, or product questions, I felt more assurred to order from them. Their price wasn't that much different from other sources anyway. My niece and my daughter preceeded me in the purchase of this blender. (We all had watched the FAT, SICK, AND NEARLY DEAD documentary as seen on Netflix.) Now that I have one, I can say with the rest of my family, we are undeniably happy with this great machine. It has not failed to blend anything we've put into it, liquifying almost everything except an occasional frozen banana which apparently goes undercover in the mix. It's operation and clean up is easy which is the KEY factor in our daily use of it in addition to the fact that it will perform per its claims. We have made almond milk, pecan butter, oat... 5/5 D. GREAT MACHINE

The product is a must have if one inspires to live healthy, i understand its a bit pricey but its an investment on a long healthy life. Yet, i havent got the chance to experience all that this product has to offer but i use it as a juicer everyday and occasionally make great hot soups. It seems very durable not really stylish but simple. There is nothing cheap about it meaning its worth the buck. 4/5 MA-AMAKA - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Save your money - these are NOT 'Refurbished'

Note: I am well aware that these are product reviews and not seller reviews. I usually never break this rule. In this case however, this is a SELLER-refurbished product, being sold by this seller ONLY, so the distinction between seller and product cannot be made as clearly. The ICB3 is an amazing blender in its own right. Even the unit I received from this seller was not lacking in power in any way. It could turn ice into white white snow in a matter of seconds. However, there are some things you should be aware of before you buy from this seller:1. If you've bought refurbished products in the past, there are some expectations you are bound to have about them, i.e. they are usually products returned by customers within the 30 day return window, and appear new for all practical purposes. Manufacturers go to great lengths to replace any parts that show any kind of wear, and no self-respecting blender manufacturer would sell a refurbished blender with a jar that is... 1/5 Ramkumar Balaraman (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews, December 4, 2011

    Too Big for Home Use

This smoothie blender is the most powerful blender I have ever used. It easily rips through whole bags of frozen fruits and ice to make perfectly smooth frozen drinks. The plastic enclosure is an effective noise dampener, but it is still very loud -- like louder than a lawnmower. It is also very big and tall. It's too tall to keep on the kitchen counter because it won't fit under the cabinets, and it's also very heavy, so my wife doesn't like to get it out of the closet to use.So, our verdict is that this is a great product, but not so much for home use. 3/5 Rich P. Excellent for Hobbyist, Vegan, Vegetarian or Fitness Person at Home

For the $200 or so I paid for this, I don't care if it was previously used or truly refurbished. It works far superior to any home blender I have used and broken. This refurbished or previously used blender is excellent for the hobbyist and home vegan or vegetarian or fitness person. If you are used to consumer blenders this commercial blender will blow you away. I have owned this product for around 3 months. I use it daily. 5/5 D. M. Nixon - See all my reviews, May 10, 2012

The refurbished Blendtec ICB3 Smoothers have been rigorously tested to ensure they operate just like new units. Please note: you may notice some signs of wear on the outside of the unit like the jar.
Easily convertible design allows you to install the blender above (in the provided base) or directly in your counter.
Sound Shroud allows for quieter operation
No need to "float" ice, this machine will turn ice into "snow".
Powerful 13 amp motor (peak 3HP) with Master ON/OFF switch, touch controls with custom settings and 2 pulse settings.

    Best Blender Ever!

I purchased this blender in July last year and have been using it daily and love it. I use it mainly to make green smoothies to fortify my bones and include all sorts of leafy vegetables and this way I eat a much larger serving than I would in a salad or soup etc. I add other veggies too and a little bit of frozen fruits to make it more palatable, a chunk of ginger, sometime an entire avocado including the pit. No problem: it all comes out creamy and you get all the fibers (that's a plus compare to the juicers). The pre-programmed settings make it very easy to use: I don't have to "think" when I prepare my smoothie first thing in the morning before leaving for work and I know I will have a very healthy meal for my day away from home. I purchased "Green Smoothies" by V. Boutenko to learn optimum ways and get ideas for combining veggies. It is a little loud but it's really not an issue for me. The square jar allows the food to blend well and you never need to go in with a spatula to... 5/5 Marie-Annick (Northern California, CA United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Excellent Blender

After having gone through 4 blenders in the last 8 years I decided to fork the money over for this blendtec blender. I should have purchased it much, much sooner. This blender makes the best smoothies ever. It doesnt grind the seeds from blackberries, but crushes the ice to a smooth consistency. Definitely a keeper. 5/5 Lillian M. using it!

we have used our blendtec wildside blender every single day since we got it, twice a day. blends really, really, really well. hearing protection is only necessary for the sensitive earred folks. usually i have to hit the smoothie button twice for a really smooth green smoothie, but it always turns out great! i haven't ventured past green smoothies, but the recipe book that comes with it is really extensive, with soooo many great sounding recipes. i did a Ton of research before i made this purchase. totally pleased. we have only had it 5 days, but we love it! 5/5 seahorselobster - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
