About this book
The post-Ajaxian Web 2.0 world of wikis, folksonomies, and mashups makes well-planned information architecture even more essential. How do you present large volumes of information to people who need to find what they're looking for quickly? This classic primer shows information architects, designers, and web site developers how to build large-scale and maintainable web sites that are appealing and easy to navigate. The new edition is thoroughly updated to address emerging technologies -- with recent examples, new scenarios, and information on best practices -- while maintaining its focus on fundamentals. With topics that range from aesthetics to mechanics, Information Architecture for the World Wide Web explains how to create interfaces that users can understand right away. Inside, you'll find: An overview of information architecture for both newcomers and experienced practitioners The fundamental components of an architecture, illustrating the interconnected nature of these systems. Updated, with updates for tagging, folksonomies, social classification, and guided navigation Tools, techniques, and methods that take you from research to strategy and design to implementation. This edition discusses blueprints, wireframes and the role of diagrams in the design phase A series of short essays that provide practical tips and philosophical advice for those who work on information architecture The business context of practicing and promoting information architecture, including recent lessons on how to handle enterprise architecture Case studies on the evolution of two large and very different information architectures, illustrating best practices along the way How do you document the rich interfaces of web applications? Expect it to last a year, then break.

This is my third pitcher for my since I bought it two years ago. It's a great blender (albeit loud), and if you consider there is a $30/yr 'fee' to keep replacing the pitcher it's a pretty decent deal. These pitchers are great while they last, but they will break. Just expect it to happen and you won't be disappointed :) 4/5 David M. Robbins "Sweet" (Sherman Oaks, CA) - See all my reviews, April 18, 2012

Blade assembly, or lack thereof, stinks!

This really goes with a great blender. You absolutely cannot complain about the size of the jar. I never put it in the dishwasher, so it never cracked either. The blade assembly, however, is just awful. Whatever happened to the days when you could unscrew the blade, take it all apart for cleaning and then put it back together? This thing comes lose and to tighten it is impossible for me and painful for my husband. We had to jury rig another rubber washer in there, because you cant take it all apart to replace it. I am currently drinking a chunky smoothie, suppose I should call it a chunkie, because we dare not let it blend for very long before it all starts leaking out the bottom. So, while I love the blender, this jar is such a pain to deal with that I would really recommend not even bothering. 1/5 Sharlee - See all my reviews, August 7, 2011

    THE JAR being SOLD

The previous two reviews talk about the awful KitchAid blender jar. YES it is awful. The blade broke in about a year. But this jar being sold here is pretty decent. Nice product, prompt shipping by the seller. Only thing is that they did not provide much information on the site. Its a 48 oz jar without the lid. But fits nicely to my KSB560. 4/5 Prady - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) buyer beware

If you're considering a Kitchen Aid blender, READ THESE REVIEWS CAREFULLY. The blender part is fine, but the jar & blade assembly were not built to last. Unfortunately Kitchen Aid makes minor changes to the products and makes the old models obsolete and spare parts are no longer available. I called the Kitchen Aid support line to ask where I could buy a discontinued jar for my KSB5WH4 blender (KitchenAid Small Appliance Blender White Model 4) and they just tried to sell me a refurbished model. Why on earth why I double down by buying a second discontinued model? You too can join the legions of frustrated consumers that mistakenly trusted an old name like Kitchen Aid. Next time I'll just buy some inexpensive chinese junk and replace it every 5 years. 1/5 wary consumer (silicon valley) - See all my reviews This review is from: Kitchenaid Blender Jar If you're considering a Kitchen Aid blender, READ THESE REVIEWS CAREFULLY. Buying my 3rd one, grrrrrrr....

These plastic jars just don't last. I don't know how this even qualifies as a viable product. We have to replace ours every several months. We don't do anything abnormal with it. Smoothies mainly, and we use our icemaker to pre-crush the ice for it (since we know it's so sensitive). It doesn't take long for cracks to appear, and then come the sticky leaks that get all over the blender and the counter. And, it's so expensive. Unfortunately, our blender (the KSB-580, which is similar to the 560, I think) doesn't take the standard glass jar. Big mistake on our part. At some point, I guess, we'll need to buy a new blender so we don't have to keep replacing the jar. Loved it for a minute, then ...

I thought I had found the perfect blender. The jar is light and simple to use/wash. I used for less than a year making smoothies - with and without ice. Then one day I put all ingredients in and hit the liquify button and all I hear is spinning - no action. The blade had broken in half. Again, this was what I would call light to normal useage for less than a year. I began searching online for a replacement jar because when it worked I did like this blender. ARE YOU [...]KIDDING ME??? $50++ for a replacement jar. What a crock of sh**. I will now go and purchase another blender and stay clear of Kitchen Aid just because ... 1/5 M. Makes me rethink KitchAid anything

I wish I had seen other comment before I bought mine. I too have this blender and my jar has cracked and needs replacing. KitchenAid clearly has a manufacturing defect with this, but instead of fixing it they appear to have decided to just make money on it by charging $50 for a part that should be about $25. It's probably the last KitchenAid product I'll ever buy. 1/5 Chefgirl - See all my reviews This review is from: KitchenAid Blender Pitcher with Lid (Kitchen) I wish I had seen other comment before I bought mine. I read several of the reviews of the coupler. After close observation of my own blender, I realized I would not be able to remove the torn coupler without a special tool, which I didn't know was available. Then I came upon this set of tool and coupler, which I immediately ordered, with my fingers crossed hoping it would work out. After a quick delivery (in my mailbox in 5 days, including a weekend), I opened the package. The directions that come with the coupler do not explain how to use special tool. However, it was pretty easy to figure out: Use the tool to hold the knob in place on which the coupler is attached (without the tool, the knob will turn in the same direction as the loosening direction). Use a plier to turn the coupler clockwise, while using the tool to hold the knob still, thus preventing the knob from turning as you loosen it. Note, the coupler must be loosened by turning it righty-loosey, opposite of the usual righty-tighty. For me, this could not be done without the... 5/5 J. - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Removal tool was absolutely necessary.

When my husband and I ordered the replacement rubber coupler for our Kitchenaid blender, I wanted to order the removal tool as well. He took the guy's advice in the other review and did not order it. After working on my blender for nearly half an hour attempting to remove the coupler according to the directions, he had a blister on his finger, had chisled little bits of metal off my blender base, was in a terrible mood, and he still couldn't remove it. I tried too, following the instructions closely, to no avail. We ordered the removal tool combo the next day and when it arrived, had the coupler off and replaced in less than a minute. The blender works perfectly once again. I wish I had ordered the removal tool in the first place. 5/5 D. Wilson (NC USA) - See all my reviews, March 10, 2010

THIS PART DOES NOT FIT THE KITCHEN AID KSB5 MODEL!

After reading the reviews I wondered about the part. Some said thAt it would fit and others said it doesn't. Perhaps it will fit other models but it certainly does fit the Kitchen Aid KSB5. It is much smaller and there are only 2 cogs instead of the original 6. I am happy that I purchased this with an Amazon.com Credit Card. They helped me get a refund with no problem. I did have to pay for the shipping the part to them and also the shipping of the part to me. That came out to almost $5.00. At least I got a little over $12.00 back. On their reciept it states that there if there is "free" shipping there will be a $10.00 handling charge plus the price of the shipping charge to send the item to you. Thank goodness this was not the case or I would have been a very unhappy camper. IF YOU HAVE A KITCHEN AID KSB5 BLENDER DO NOT BUY THIS PART......IT WILL NOT FIT! 1/5 Marilyn E. Search for the holy blender...

I have been looking for a blender for a few weeks now. We have started making smoothies at home and burned up our old one. Our girls like the "Chocolate Elvis" recipe from the local smoothie place which contains peanutbutter, bananas, yogurt, ice, and milk. I guess this is really hard on blenders. I bought one at Target 2 weeks ago that had "700 watts peak power" on the box. It died in 2 days. The power spec on the bottom of the blender said 450 watts. I think that is false advertisement. They Redesigned The Container (carafe)!!!

We bought this Kitchenaid blender over a year ago, and after several months the container started to leak. The leak was small, and we put up with it for awhile. We finally got tired of the mess, however, and called the factory. We were told that the container had been redesigned, and they would send us a new one immediately even though our warranty had expired. When we got the new one we could see that it had indeed been redesigned, and have used it for some time now, and NO LEAKS. A leak proof container plus the other great features of this blender now warrant a definite five stars.3/24/12 update. Our blender is now five years old, is used every day, and has been problem free since they replaced the container in 2008. 5/5 Robert Derenthal "bucherwurm" (California United States) - See all my reviews, May 25, 2008

Do Yourself a Favor and Buy this Fantasitc Blender

My husband and I make smoothies almost every single night (as in, 6-7 nights/week), so we're really hard on our blenders. We have been through 4 blenders in the last 3 years alone. We started with a cheap Oster blender, but quickly realized that it was pretty much useless for the thick smoothies we like to make. Next, I bought the Back to Basics Smoothie Elite, which was great for as long as it held up, but as it turned out, that was only 6 months. So, we upgraded to the Back to Basics Smoothie Professional, which was great until I dropped the glass jar into the sink and broke it, only to find that you couldn't buy a new one ANYWHERE so my $120 blender was now worthless. After all this, I decided to stop fooling around and buy a Kitchenaid. This blender has all the power you need (way more power than any of the first 3 blenders I bought; both the smoothie blenders came with a stir stick, but such a thing isn't even necessary when you have the power of this Kitchenaid),... 5/5 AG Pym (Bookland) - See all my reviews This review is from: KitchenAid KSB560MC 5-Speed Blender with Polycarbonate Jar, Metallic Chrome (Kitchen) My husband and I make smoothies almost every single night (as in, 6-7 nights/week), so we're really hard on our blenders. great blender

I make frozen fruit smoothies every day and I needed a blender that could handle that sort of heavy duty use. I bought one of these at Costco after seriously considering both the Blendtec and The VitaMix machines. I am so glad I bought this one. It has proven to be a great blender. Every morning I toss in frozen strawberries, bananas, pineapple, blueberries, oranges, and other types of fruit. To that I add protein powder and milk, secure the top and use the automatic (this lovely machine shuts itself off) setting to make a pitcher of really great, icey cold, somewhat frozen smoothies. Some days the mixture is so thick that we have to eat the it with spoons! Once in awhile I have to stop the blender and stir the contents because a piece of frozen fruit gets stuck. But that is a rare occurrence (the reversing blades are great at keeping things moving and blending). So why do I give this blender 4 stars instead of five? It is noisy. In my opinion it is very noisy. I bought one of these at Costco after seriously considering both the Blendtec and The VitaMix machines. I am so glad I bought this one. It has proven to be a great blender. I wish I would have known

I have used Oster blenders for years, my last one a beehive, glass jar one was wonderful and held up to almost daily heavy duty use. I purchased it over 5 years ago. The only problem I ever had was the eventual cracking and breaking down of the housing around the blade unit. It was constructed of a heavy very durable plastic. I ordered a replacement part which was sold to fit that particular blender and sold here on Amazon. It didn't last a month.I just received my new Oster 600 Watt Counterforms blender and yes it has a glass jar and it may be 600 watts but I was VERY disappointed to see that the housing around the blade unit is very cheap PLASTIC!!! I will try to use this blender but am already disappointed that Oster has scrimped on a very important part of the blender's durability and usefulness!!!6/29/2011 This is an edit - I bought this blender in August 2010 and here it is 10 months later and the housing completely split. Great blender

I have had this blender for almost 3 years now.In that time I have made numerous shakes, smoothiesand mixed drinks. The blades to date still do thejobs I intended them for. I haven't ever hadany problems with the motor or the blades stoppingmid blend. The noise is really loud but afterso many uses I've tuned it out. It is easy to cleanand doesn't look cheap or feel cheap. I don't usethe food chop button as I either chop etc.. myselfor I use my food processor. I didn't buy it for that.I'm very happy with this purchase then and now. 5/5 M. Kolias (Texas) - See all my reviews, August 4, 2010
