    Search for the holy blender...

I have been looking for a blender for a few weeks now. We have started making smoothies at home and burned up our old one. Our girls like the "Chocolate Elvis" recipe from the local smoothie place which contains peanutbutter, bananas, yogurt, ice, and milk. I guess this is really hard on blenders. I bought one at Target 2 weeks ago that had "700 watts peak power" on the box. It died in 2 days. The power spec on the bottom of the blender said 450 watts. I think that is false advertisement. I have seen this on 2 different blenders now.I have been leery of buying any blender with the little plastic teeth couplers because of all the bad reviews here on Amazon. I also wanted to stay away from anything with only 450 watts.I was in another store and saw this blender. It has a new design for where the blades couple with the motor. They Redesigned The Container (carafe)!!!

We bought this Kitchenaid blender over a year ago, and after several months the container started to leak. The leak was small, and we put up with it for awhile. We finally got tired of the mess, however, and called the factory. We were told that the container had been redesigned, and they would send us a new one immediately even though our warranty had expired. When we got the new one we could see that it had indeed been redesigned, and have used it for some time now, and NO LEAKS. A leak proof container plus the other great features of this blender now warrant a definite five stars.3/24/12 update. Our blender is now five years old, is used every day, and has been problem free since they replaced the container in 2008. 5/5 Robert Derenthal "bucherwurm" (California United States) - See all my reviews, May 25, 2008

Do Yourself a Favor and Buy this Fantasitc Blender

My husband and I make smoothies almost every single night (as in, 6-7 nights/week), so we're really hard on our blenders. We have been through 4 blenders in the last 3 years alone. We started with a cheap Oster blender, but quickly realized that it was pretty much useless for the thick smoothies we like to make. Next, I bought the Back to Basics Smoothie Elite, which was great for as long as it held up, but as it turned out, that was only 6 months. So, we upgraded to the Back to Basics Smoothie Professional, which was great until I dropped the glass jar into the sink and broke it, only to find that you couldn't buy a new one ANYWHERE so my $120 blender was now worthless. After all this, I decided to stop fooling around and buy a Kitchenaid. This blender has all the power you need (way more power than any of the first 3 blenders I bought; both the smoothie blenders came with a stir stick, but such a thing isn't even necessary when you have the power of this Kitchenaid),... 5/5 AG Pym (Bookland) - See all my reviews This review is from: KitchenAid KSB560MC 5-Speed Blender with Polycarbonate Jar, Metallic Chrome (Kitchen) My husband and I make smoothies almost every single night (as in, 6-7 nights/week), so we're really hard on our blenders. Great replacement piece, save big bucks

My wife's aunt broke the piece by pushing down on the blender while it was running. This may be true on cheaper unit that may be unstable but this was a bad thing to do on the KitchenAid unit. It ended up breaking a few teeth on the coupling. I thought I'd have to dump the unit and buy a new one but some research pointed me to this replacement unit. Replacing it was a piece of cake. Take a flathead screw driver and point it at a 45 degree angle against one of the left over teeth on the angled side and hit the screw driver sharply with a hammer. You need to do it such that when it hit, the piece will turn "clockwise" which will unscrew it. It's a reverse thread so it's NOT lefty-loosy and righty-tighty but the opposite. One or two hits will loosen the coupling so you can unscrew it and screw on the new one. Presto!!! $10 fix vs $100 new unit. 5/5 H. Life saver

We called Kitchen Aid because this was the second blender that this part failed on. Of course it was out of warranty so they told us we would need to send in the unit for repairs. We found the part just popped off so my husband started hunting the part. We bought 2 and the repair took less than a minute. More people need to know about this. 5/5 E. D. How to get the old one off

Like another reviewer said, just unplug the blender, use a long screwdriver to stop the motor from turning, and then unscrew the coupling (in the opposite direction than you normally would). Took about 5 minutes... just had to find the right place to put the screwdriver to stop the motor. 4/5 J. Shaha - See all my reviews, March 27, 2008

    The Blender with Intelligence

I have owned a lot of blenders and this one is very impressive. I was tempted to give it 4 stars as it is not the best blender I have ever owned. That distinction goes to the Vita-Mix which has a nuclear reactor for a base, sounds like a Harley and cost as much as a microwave but if you need a blender that can crush anything and make flour and HOT soup....well....but back to the KitchenAid.First it looks great. As a home chef, having a sleek modern looking kitchen is important. Second it is easy to clean... I will never own a push button (i.e. old Oster-type) blender again. Nor one with a multi piece jar. One leak can and has ruined an evening or party, as you run to grab paper towel and dish clothes to control the margarita or soup that is running across your counter and down your cabinets. Then the fun of cleaning your blender nooks begin....grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.Now the really impressive part. I have owned a Waring for years. Everyone always raves about... 5/5 D. Top-Notch Blender

This is an excellent, high-quality blender. We replaced an inexpensive Oster with it and like this KitchenAid much, much more. Things I really like:1) Power - this blender whips through hard-frozen fruit like nothing is there for wonderful smoothies.2) Smooth, one piece control panel - makes for super-easy clean-up as there are no cracks or crevices to trap spills. Yet, the buttons behind the panel still have a nice tactile click response so you know you pressed one.3) Brushed nickel finish - very attractive on your counter.4) Polycarbonate jar - this worried me when considering this purchase as our old blender had a nice, thick glass jar. But, after using this blender for 3 months, I like this jar better. It is thick, yet lightweight, and hasn't scratched (although I only use rubber or silicone spatulas inside any way).5) One piece blades & jar - our old blender had a screw-off base, resulting in 4 parts for clean-up - the base, the blade... 5/5 Tom Tracy (Northern GA, United States) - See all my reviews, March 11, 2008

    Monster ice crusher

If you're into crushed ice and smoothie type drinks, this is easily the best one I've found. It reduces ice cubes to a smooth slush in just seconds. The "crush ice" mode pulses on and off to crush the ice quickly and few more seconds at a higher speed smooths it out and adds some air volume. It also looks very sleek, so won't mind leaving it out on your bar or in the kitchen. 5/5 Jason Austin (Virginia Beach, VA USA) - See all my reviews, July 2, 2007

    Top Rate Blender

We were looking for a blender that would make smoothies on a daily basis, last longer than 90-days and not cost us a fortune. This blender easily crushes the ice and blends the frozen fruits into a delicious smoothie without problem. It does not over heat or stall and the 4-level blade prevents air pockets common with other blenders. It is somewhat loud but that is to be expected from a motor powerful enough to easily crush ice in seconds. We recommend this blender to anyone looking for quality at a reasonable price. 5/5 Texas Net Surfer - See all my reviews This review is from: KitchenAid KSB565SM 5-Speed Blender with 48-Ounce Glass Jar, Silver Metallic (Kitchen) We were looking for a blender that would make smoothies on a daily basis, last longer than 90-days and not cost us a fortune. No complain!!

Before I bought this I checked many reviews. I chose the glass jar over polycarbonate one that would be nice, if there in no leaking possibility.Cleaning and assembling are easier than other brand that I owned before since it is built well.Primary purpose of this is making smoothy and ice crush. This is doing better than I expected. Especially, for ice crushing, it does crush and pulse and it is very effective. I recommend it with 5 star. 5/5 JS "JS" (California,USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: KitchenAid 5-Speed Blender with Glass Blender Jar, Empire Red (Kitchen) Before I bought this I checked many reviews. Bad design of base

We saw this same comment when we were reviewing to purchase. Bought it anyhow. The flimsy plastic base broke where it attached to the motor. Don't buy this product. This is a major design flaw for what would otherwise be a pretty heavy duty blender. 1/5 Mark - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) great blender

I make frozen fruit smoothies every day and I needed a blender that could handle that sort of heavy duty use. I bought one of these at Costco after seriously considering both the Blendtec and The VitaMix machines. I am so glad I bought this one. It has proven to be a great blender. Every morning I toss in frozen strawberries, bananas, pineapple, blueberries, oranges, and other types of fruit. To that I add protein powder and milk, secure the top and use the automatic (this lovely machine shuts itself off) setting to make a pitcher of really great, icey cold, somewhat frozen smoothies. Some days the mixture is so thick that we have to eat the it with spoons! Once in awhile I have to stop the blender and stir the contents because a piece of frozen fruit gets stuck. But that is a rare occurrence (the reversing blades are great at keeping things moving and blending). So why do I give this blender 4 stars instead of five? It is noisy. In my opinion it is very noisy. I have used Oster blenders for years, my last one a beehive, glass jar one was wonderful and held up to almost daily heavy duty use. I purchased it over 5 years ago. This is my third pitcher for my since I bought it two years ago. It's a great blender (albeit loud), and if you consider there is a $30/yr 'fee' to keep replacing the pitcher it's a pretty decent deal. These pitchers are great while they last, but they will break. Beats buying a new blender

Read multiple reviews, and we decided to purchase the two pack. Product came in a very reasonable time. My wife installed the unit by first removing the old coupler with a screw driver, and it went pretty well until she slipped and stuck the screwdriver into her hand (please note that this did not surprise me, and she will love it that I posted this). Five minutes later and one bandaid, the old coupler was off, and the new coupler was installed. Excellent replacement part. A bit of difficulty getting the old one off. Stuck a thin, long screwdriver thru the holes in the bottom of the blender to engage the fan blades (make sure the blender is unplugged first) the old coupler unscrews clockwise. Piece of cake. Better than the sugestion of banging the old coupling with a hammer or prying it off and cleaning the threads. 5/5 Gary Jones (LAKE FOREST, CA, US) - See all my reviews, July 8, 2011

    Great performer

Bought this blender after reading good reviews in Cooks Illustrated and have not been disappointed. Majority of use has been for making smoothie drinks and pureeing cooked vegetables for sauces and soups. The machine is sturdy and attractive. The metal housing appears quite durable and the hefty weight of the base makes for good stability. The jar is large holding more than 7 cups although there is better circulation and mixing with around 5 cups or less. At first I was a bit put off by the plastic jar (seemed cheap) but have come to appreciate its light weight. After a few drops I think it's much more durable than glass and I don't cringe when my wife wacks the edge of the jar with metal spoons. 5 speeds with pulse and ice crush buttons- I would be perfectly happy with 3 speeds. Crushes ice uniformly from chunky to snow-cone fine. Purees are smooth with no lumps. Great Blender

I have owned several blenders over the years, including a blender specifically made for smoothies. The motor in this device would smoke when too much ice was used. I returned it immediately because I did not think that was safe. I also previously owned a combination food processor/blender from Hamilton Beach that was pretty efficient. However, it was a huge hassle to switch between the two devices and I stopped using it all together. I have owned this blender for over a year and it is one of the best I have ever used. The KitchenAid blender is large, quick, and efficient. It makes short work of blending ice, no matter the amount of ingredients placed in the polycarbonate jar. The jar alone is enough to make me want to get another one. It is light, easy to clean, and the handle and contoured pouring lip makes it a breeze to get your ingredients out of it.I have had no problems with this machine and feel completely comfortable recommending it to other people. Put my Kitchen Aid to shame!

It's sweet! Feels a bit cheap in the controls, plastic buttons but who cares. The jar, sharp blades, lid are all exactly like my parents Osterizer they got for their wedding in the 60's (which is still going strong). I make smoothie-whey protein shakes everyday (juices, yoghurt, apple sauce, whey protein, ice cubes, frozen strawberries-blackberries-blueberries, flax seed) all this stuff fills it to the top and the Oster made short work of it. Ten seconds or less. I think I kept it running longer just because I was used to my Kitchen Aid blender that I ran at multiple speeds plus pulse and still had chunks left over.Anyway, it's cheap, it's basic, it works better than high dollar blenders. Purchased this to replace a Procter Silex blender I just bought that does nothing. The Osster blender will take ice cubes and make it as fine as snow. Makes smoothies that are smooth. Bought this on Consumer Reports best buy rating, and it is great. 5/5 G. Speck (Connecticut) - See all my reviews, September 7, 2010

    I love it!

This blender does all that Consumer Reports said it does. It crushed ice superbly and ha all the power one might want, the metal drive unit seems very sturdy, and it is a great all-round blender. CR said it wasn't as good at making icy drinks as others they tested, but the only problem I found was that the ice does not get completely blended in, especially if multiple cubes are added at once. I found it was less of a problem if each ice cube is added singly and blended well before adding the next one. However. when making just crushed ice, it will handle multiple ice cubes at a time (just be sure to use pulse mode and don't over-crush unless you want slush). The user instructions suggest using the small clear plastic top for measuring, but it is not labeled with any lines or amounts. The glass pitcher is sturdy and has a wide pouring lip, and I like the side projections which prevent the bottom from loosening during blending. It is marked with 1-cup (and 250 ml)... 5/5 N. We like to buy things that last

So, after 30 years, we needed a new blender. Hmmm. My wife and I hadn't a clue where to start nor what was out there. On my first two internet searches all I found were the two extremes: small fractional Hp motors or the ridiculously priced $400 to $500 unit. And yes, of course we want to crush ice - who doesn't? I have enough engineering background to know that a 0.2 to 0.5 Hp motor is NOT going to crush ice. Finally, we found the KitchenAid models! Some were 0.9 Hp, which is more like it. The pitcher (I call it) was a larger diameter and a little squat - perfect design for better blending, not to mention storage. We decided that two speeds just wasn't enough, 3 speeds would be borderline and we certainly didn't want anything ridiculous like 10 or 15 speeds. (That's what they do when the motor is underpowered to do the job.) We settled on the KitchenAid KSB465Wh 4-speed with 48 ounce jar and 0.9 Hp motor. The weight wasn't given but the appearance gave... 5/5 Rick Glackin (Spring Grove, PA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) A clear winner!

After doing more blender research than I care to admit to myself, I narrowed my search to three blenders. I selected this model after speaking to a most informed and helpful Kitchenaid customer service rep who answered my remainding questions one Saturday afternoon. Since, they staffed their customer serviced department on the weekends, I was already impressed. This blender replaced a just out-of-warranty Cuisinart blender which I loved, until it died a premature death, I can say without hestiattion this model is far better. Since I use our blender daily to make breakfast smoothies, some with ice, I thought my blender needs were simple. Quite to the contrary, I discovered. There is no middle ground when it comes to chopping ice and this blender does a superb and lighin' quick job. I add very frozen berries to the morning mix and this blender handles them beautifully. The performance, design, ease of operation and cleaning each have exceeded my expectations. 5/5 B. D. I love the KitchenAid blender!

This review is for the KitchenAid KSB465RT 4-speed countertop blender with the 48-ounce polycarbonate jar in empire red. I really love this blender! Most of my experience has been with Oster blenders, and my last one was a beehive Oster. It didn't last long, maybe a year and a half. I have had this KitchenAid blender for about 3 months so I can't speak to it's longevity but I hope it lasts a long time.THE LID: The lid design is much better than the Oster beehive. The Oster used to toss food on the wall and down the sides of the jar sometimes, making a mess that was hard to reach to clean on the base. This lid has a deep flange so food doesn't escape the blender.THE JAR: The KitchenAid jar is plastic. That means it's lightweight, and it won't break if you drop it, but I suspect over time it will scratch and dull somewhat. The plastic jar has a deep flange at the base that I really like. Occasionally I would get the Oster not seated quite correctly and... 5/5 M. Johnson (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews, March 15, 2010
